In short: Leggings become opaque through a firm, densely knitted fabric – not through as much synthetic fibre as possible. Our leggings are made of cotton jersey with 92 % cotton and 8 % elastane. The fabrics come exclusively from Europe and are certified to Öko-Tex Standard 100; they are sewn in our Berlin studio and by partner workshops in Berlin and the EU.
How can you tell if leggings are opaque?
- The fabric: What matters is how densely the jersey is knitted. Thin fabrics turn pale and see-through when stretched; a firm jersey stays opaque even when you move.
- The elastane content: A small proportion is enough for the leggings to keep their shape. More elastane doesn't make them more opaque.
- The size: Leggings that are too small get overstretched and are more likely to become see-through. Choose your usual size – all measurements are in the size chart.
- The squat test: Stand in front of the mirror in daylight and squat down. If no skin and no underwear show through, the leggings are opaque.
Are cotton leggings opaque?
Not automatically – it depends on the density of the fabric. Our cotton jersey is firm enough that it doesn't become see-through even when you move: in everyday life, doing yoga or dancing. Cotton also has an advantage over many sports leggings made of synthetic fibres: it is breathable and pleasant on the skin.
What does “fairly produced” mean at Curlix?
- Fabrics from Europe: We use fabrics from Europe exclusively. All leggings fabrics are certified to Öko-Tex Standard 100.
- Our own designs: We design many of our patterns ourselves. The fabrics are knitted exclusively for us in Poland and coloured using digital printing.
- Sewn in Berlin and Europe: We sew in our own Berlin studio and by partner workshops in Berlin and the EU – in small batches instead of mass production.
- Try them in person: In our showroom & studio in Berlin you can try on the leggings and get to know us.
You can read more about us on our About us page.
Öko-Tex, organic cotton, GOTS – what's the difference?
- Öko-Tex Standard 100 tests the finished textile for harmful substances. The label tells you something about what ends up on your skin.
- Organic cotton refers to how the cotton is grown, for example without synthetic pesticides.
- GOTS combines organic fibres with ecological and social requirements along the supply chain.
To be honest: our leggings are not made of organic cotton and are not GOTS-certified. For us, fair means: fabrics from Europe tested for harmful substances, short distances, our own studio in Berlin, partner workshops in Berlin and the EU, and small batches instead of mass production.
How do leggings stay opaque for a long time?
Wash your cotton leggings at 30 °C, ideally turned inside out – that way the print stays looking good for a long time too. You'll find further instructions on the care label.
